ABSOLUTE NEUTROPHIL COUNT (ANC)
ABSOLUTE NEUTROPHIL COUNT (ANC)
Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) is a measure of the number of neutrophil granulocytes present in the blood. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that fights against infection. A healthy person has an ANC between 2,500 and 6,000 neutrophils/mcL (2.5-6.0). Neutropenia is a low number of neutrophils in the bloodstream which may result in an increased risk of infection. Neutropenia may be either mild, moderate or severe depending on the number of neutrophils present in the blood. A healthy person has an ANC between 2,500 and 6,000 neutrophils/mcL (2.5-6.0).
Mild: 1,000-1,500 neutrophils/mcL (1.0-1.5)
Moderate: 500-1,000 neutrophils/mcL (0.5-1.0)
Severe: <500 neutrophils/mcL (0.5)
